Walking in purpose: September 17

Have you ever noticed how easy it is to slip into “doing” Christianity instead of living in a relationship with God? The heart of our faith isn’t found in pressure, performance, or checking spiritual boxes. It’s found in intimacy—a real connection with the God who loves us.
Take a look at Ruth’s story, a woman who chose devotion even when life felt heavy and uncertain. Her words to Naomi weren’t driven by duty; they flowed from deep love and commitment. That kind of closeness changes everything. Ruth didn’t know it at the time, but her decision to stay connected positioned her right in the lineage of Jesus. Intimacy leads us places obedience alone can’t.
Now, let’s look at Peter—bold, passionate Peter—who loved Jesus deeply but still stumbled. We’ve all had those moments where fear or weakness gets the best of us. Yet Jesus didn’t push Peter away. After the resurrection, the angel made sure Peter knew he was still included: “Tell the disciples—and Peter.” Even in failure, God calls us by name. Intimacy restores what shame tries to steal.
Consider a simple illustration we can all relate to: Imagine purchasing a new 72" TV to watch your favorite show or sport. You can’t wait to set it up in the ideal spot, pick up the remote, and start watching. But no matter how good it looks in the room, if you don't plug it into the wall—the source of power—it will never work! It looks great, but that’s all, because it lacks a power source.
We can look spiritual, act spiritual, and try hard—but without connection, we’re running on empty. God isn’t asking us to impress Him. He’s inviting us to sit with Him, talk to Him, and walk with Him.
Intimacy isn’t a chore; it’s a gift. When we reconnect with God, peace returns, strength rises, and our hearts remember who we belong to.
